Under the direction of the City Manager, the Deputy City Manager for Racial Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (REDI) will be responsible for managing several key City Departments (Office of REDI, Office of Human Rights, Department of Social Services, Department of Human Services, and the Police Civilian Review Board). This essential position will coordinate efforts to integrate equity principles into City operations, projects and services through the application and integration of best practices, training and development of City staff, and tracking and measurement of outcomes. Duties and assignments will be broad in scope and strategic in nature, including diverse project management, strategic planning complex analysis, research coordination, and administrative functions as required. The work requires considerable initiative, judgment, and the ability to make independent decisions within broad policies and procedures as determined by the City Manager, the Council, Federal and State laws, ordinances, and regulations.

The hiring salary will be between $100,000 and $158,018 annually, dependent on education and experience. The City offers an excellent benefits program, including the option for participation in a Defined Benefits or Defined Contribution Retirement Plan. Reasonable relocation assistance will be available.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Social Services, Human Services, Sociology, Public Administration, Political Science, Ethnic Studies or a closely related field. A Master’s degree is strongly preferred.
  • Five (5) years of increasingly responsible professional experience in two or more of the above mentioned areas are preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years must be in a managerial, supervisory, or program administration capacity.
  • Experience in either a public or private sector agency is strongly preferred.
