The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (Metropolitan) is seeking a Chief Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) Officer. The Metropolitan Water District (MWD) of Southern California is governed by a 38-member Board, with 1900+ personnel and a budget of $1.9B, is a regional water wholesaler that provides water for its 26-member public retail agencies to deliver – either directly or through their sub-agencies – to nearly 19 million people living in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego and Ventura counties. Metropolitan is the largest distributor of treated drinking water in the United States.

The DEI Officer is appointed by and reports to the Assistant General Manager/Chief Financial Officer and serves as senior DE&I advisor/expert to the General Manager, Board of Directors and District leadership. The position leads the newly created Office of Diversity Equity and Inclusion that is responsible for the strategic oversight of DE&I including planning, developing, and implementing Metropolitan’s strategies and initiatives that create an organizational culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Through strategic initiatives grounded in best practices, this position will play a pivotal role in creating new policies and driving reforms to existing policies, procedures, and practices that institutionalizes a thriving culture of equity and inclusion across the entire enterprise.

Demonstrated success in implementing best practices of diversity, equity and inclusion and an excellent command of modern DE&I concepts and issues in a complex organization is critical.
